Proud to be Supporting Marie Curie

At Poundworld we’ve been proudly supporting Marie Curie since 2013, helping to raise vital funds for the charity to allow them provide essential care to people and families who are living with a terminal illness.

Just like Marie Curie, our stores and colleagues are located in the majority of towns and cities across the UK - we’re passionate about doing our bit for the communities where we have a presence. By partnering with a national charity such as Marie Curie, we can be sure that all money that we raise goes towards helping people and communities across the UK.

Over the last five years, our customers and colleagues have raised a staggering £900,000 – that’s enough to fund 47 Marie Curie nurses for an entire 12 months or a total of 45,000 hours of nursing care.

To raise this impressive sum of money, we have been involved in a number of different challenges and initiatives, and have also donated takings from the bag levy to the charity.

We have collection tins at all of our till points all year round, however, we allow Marie Curie’s volunteers into our stores at key trading periods to raise money in person and to speak to people about the great work that the charity does. Our store teams regularly go to town with supporting fundraising activity by donning Easter bonnets at Easter, spooky fancy dress at Halloween and Christmas jumpers over the festive period.

Head office gets on-board too. This year, a team of 18 from Poundworld House in Normanton tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks – there was blood, sweat, tears and blisters, however they managed to raise an incredible £3,211.

We also run regular sample sales and support Marie Curie’s ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’, with team members bringing in sweet and savoury treats alike and selling them in the colleague rest area to help raise money for the cause. This year’s ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’ raised £1,537.

Over the next six months we’d really like to and are aiming to hit the magical £1m milestone and have a schedule of activity planned to help us get there.
